Wendi Ross is owner/operator of Blue Ribbon Photography operating out of Kalama, WA.  She choses to shoot outdoors and avoid indoor show rings when she can. She is "the Happ's Photographer" and covers most of our events. Her work tends to be more artistic and the standard indoor shots are just not as satisfying to her. Wendi received her first pony for her fourth birthday and has had ponies and a variety of larger equine ever since. |

Wendi and "Mr. Tom" |
Currently she has "Mister Tom", a Pinto pony stallion; "Power Ranger", a Hackney/Welsh cross gelding; and an Arabian gelding, "Sugar".   She has competed in just about every discipline, but currently rarely competes in anything other than driving with her ponies and gaming with her Arabian. |
| Wendi has always felt that nothing would surpass her passion for showing her horses, but has found that horse photography has surpassed her love for competition. She does admit to leaving almost every event she photographs thinking about competing there the next year! |
| One of her best weekends has been covering a Combined Driving Event where she was allowed to bring her pony along to drive in the evenings. Wendi counts herself as one of the fortunate few who is able to combine two great passions into one great job. |
Farm calls and Combined Driving Events seem to be Wendi's favorite jobs. She loves the driving events as she is a driver too and is able to find a lot of comaraderie among the drivers. Self Poitrait---------> |

Wendi is fully digital and uses a 300mm lens that enables her to stand a long ways off so people do not even realize they are being photographed. This allows her to get intimate, natural photographs instead of stiff, posed shots. Her work is all posted on-line for easy viewing and ordering. |
Wendi's works have been published in magazines such as: The Paint Horse Journal, The Quarter Horse Journal, Equus, Carriage Driving World, The Whip, Driving Digest, Small Farmer's Journal, Rural Heritage, Northwest Rider, and more. |
Her photography has also been seen in a Make-A-Wish Foundation video, as advertising images, in calendars, and in Lynn Miller's book "The Workhorse Handbook".

"The Old Way" |
Her photos have won many awards, most notably an image taken in 2002 at the Happ's Horse Power Days entitled "The Old Way" featuring Clarence Stancil of Tenino, WA driving his matched pair of Percherons, Byrd and Jerry. "The Old Way" has won Best of Show at the Equine Photographers show in Scottsdale, AZ; People's Choice at Images of Equus; People's Choice at Monticello Camera Club Show; Honorable Mention at the Draft Horse Classic at Nevada State Fair; and was invited to hang in The International Salon of Photography at the Washington State Fair. |
Wendi had a solo show at the Koth Gallery in Longview, WA and has numerous photographs that continue to earn awards and accolades. |
